2old2fast If this is an aftermarket tube axle , most use a set screw in lieu of the wedge bolt to hold the K.P.

Frisco Just some additional info:

The hole is a tapered hole and must be located correctly in the axle to 'lock' the kingpin in the axle. I believe the taper is 7 degrees. Check the locking pin for the correct taper. The large end of the taper is at the front of the axle. The long nut on the locking pin acts as a spindle stop as well as tightening the lock pin in the axle.

52fatness X2, plus that kingpin is most likely hardened and drilling and tapping it may not be impossible it would be quite a chore!

BOBCRMAN@aol.com I doubt that your ideas would work. As you would be tightening the pin against the spindle, not the axle. The pin must be held to the axle. A competant shop should be able to drill the axle for wedge bolt. I have also drilled and tapped tube style axles for an external threaded lock bolt with nut.

4"dropped front axle

directions say put felt washer on, then cap slid into front axle and aline notch with hole in axle and put in wedge tighten nut to hold king pin in place..... my axle doesnt have a hole and all king pin kits seem to be the same. notch on king ping and a wedge bolt. so i have to take the axle to a machine shop and hope they dont frig it up, or my idea....drill the bottom of the king pin tap it and use a bolt with flat washer and tighten almost like a balljoint or put a small stud in and use a nut and cotter pin would either of my idea work?
