T-bucket23 Make sure its not coming out of the intake where it meets the block. This is very common. Clean it real good and watch it while it is running.

DoubleVision I fully agree with Cobalt. Your leak looks to be coming from the top end of the engine. Of all the sbc`s I`ve worked on, and other engines in general and rebuilt engines I`ve did I`ve never seen one leak oil at the head gasket but I`ve seen way more than my share leak oil at the valve cover gaskets on the old school parimeter bolt valve covers.

GUITAR1989 Yeah since my truck was going through oil and theres not ever oil stains under the truck I figured it was burning it. Its actually just leaking down to my crossmember and puddling up on there. Since I thought my engine was burning oil I was saving up $$$ for a rebuild or replacement. Now I have some money to buy something cool

I washed the engine with some simple green and took my truck out to grab some dinner. There wasnt any obvoius leaks but Im gonna cruise around more tomarrow and hopefully the leak reveals itself.

Honestly I hope its just the valve cover gasket since I allready have a set of gaskets here
Well, rest assured that whatever it IS, it ain't the HG. That ought to be worth a little peace of mind!

oil leak

look at pic the wiring harness is not wet but head is wet high towards valve cover but if fuel pump is leaking fan may be lifting oil elsewhere i did have a cracked 307 block face years ago and leaked down back of motor into starter i drove it for years the leak was not bad a quart and half per oil change found it when my son striped spark plug and i pulled head

It's not the head gasket. Your compression test results are all fine.

You said it doesn't look like the V-cover's leaking, but what I think I see is an oil slick all the way down the front of the head, puddling atop the fuel pump. Back a few months ago, you were talking about removing the v-covers and not having to replace the gaskets- did you do this??

Clean the area real good and reinspect after a drive.

It could also be leaking from the fuel pump area, it also could be the front pan seal, the side rails of the oil pan, the front timing cover seal. But my money's on the v-cover gasket. Have you tried snugging the v-cover bolts? Don't overtighten, this will only make things worse.

GUITAR1989 Ok Ill go do that its getting dark though so I might not get back to you with resaults till tomarrow.

thanks for your help by the way man

i just looked at your pic check fuel pump gasket also clean everything then start and idle to see if fan is throwing oil elsewhere or valve cover leak

GUITAR1989 It usually runs at 180 give or take a few degrees but I had to drain the coolant one time and when I refilled it it was low so it got up to 200-210 for a sec then i added more antifreeze and water to bring it back to 180. How hot can a sbc 350 get before damage occours?

GUITAR1989 Hey guys I did some more searching..Is it true that faulty head gaskets cant leak oil? This dude on another website says, "It is entirely impossible to have oil leaking out of the head gasket!" He says its leaky valve covers. I went out and looked at the my valve cover and it doesnt look like its leaking at all...
