As far as colors and blends, they (the painters) tell me that those were a breeze. Of course the shop owner says different as he thinks you should be able to panel paint everything and a quality system should match dead on (LOL!!). Don't get me started on that. The painters I talked to though, didn't seem to have problems there. So this has definately just now become an issue. My guess is they are trying to figure out a way to make it seem like it is your fault, or come up with a good explanation that is nothing but BS. As said before, it didn't use to be that way. I remember one time they came in an took about 3-4 different products off the shelf before I even opened them because they had a few reports in the area of something crazy going on. My batch numbers matched up and they pulled them and sent new the next day. They would have replaced same day if I was in a hurting. That kind of service from them has gone by the wayside as I am just a small shop.

Tell your boss to tell them you are bringing another paint company in to try them out, and they will be there next day if not THAT day trying to get solutions.
That is exactly what HE wants to do but the owner is focusing only on the big discount the Akzo is giving us! It's like I have said, we do $250k a month in sales that $18K is crap, if they gave it to us for free but we had to reshoot a couple of cars we are behind the eight ball!

The rep is VERY frustrated with the head painter. He like to blame everything on something outer than his application with EVERY problem he has ever had. You just can't get ahead when you have that attitude and the tech rep is VERY tired of it.

I don't blame him. This is one reason I went out there and sprayed the color and I will do more. I WANT to know how this stuff ticks, it doesn't seem the head painter does, the other guys are working hard to figure it out but the head painter is only pointing fingers at the product.

I know that tinting this stuff is a BEACH. My God the toners are strong, ONE DRIP will dramatically change the color.

MARTINSR Jermy, it's a Keystone store, oh yeah things have changed. But that isn't too bad, the biggest problem is with the color.

DBM, these guys are on hourly so outside of their bonus they aren't worried about re-dos. But last week with three large re-dos the boss is paying attention a little more. I haven't sprayed any waterborne but one time and I got out there last week and sprayed one of the colors they had problems just to see what they were up against and it was really funky. I chose the wrong alternate so it wasn't the paint companies fault in that case. But just working with that waterborne it is pretty tough. I learned a lot I'll tell you that.

Spraying it is a gas, no problem what so ever in my opinion, it is all about color and blends, in that regard it is REALLY tough.

jeremyb Are you dealing with an akzo store now or a keystone store?

Their service has diminished over the years, and the final nail in the coffin was the buyout of their stores to LKQ/keystone. After that happened I would get calls for about a week asking if I needed anything (used to be a common thing when it was an akzo store).....I haven't spoken to anyone there in months now.

As far as the paint, the shop across the street used their WB for about a year and I can't say I heard of this. They used it all the way up to the beggining of this year. Their complaint was only that it was too slow for their style production. Must be something that has just started. I don't know anyone else around here that uses their water.

deadbodyman when your doing that much buisness you should have had a rep there the next day ,They make good paint but but if they dont fix their problem fast they need to come get it...mabee the painter should demand more money for all the extra work he has to do to match the paint ,not to mention the loss of money because of fewer cars put out at the end of the month...Bosses usually understand the money part...

MARTINSR That's the thing, the colors USE TO BE good! And the company doesn't seem to want to hear us.
We don't have a contract with them and I am trying to get the boss to get another paint in here.

Companies are dying to get in, we do an average of about $18K a month, it is a big account and we could have an cage fight over here with reps for this business.

deadbodyman I'm sure you've already thought of this but I'd be looking at what toners you have restocked ,you might have a bad one ...

Anyone here shoot AkzoNobel water borne?

I have some general questions for anyone spraying this paint. We have some issues and I want to see if they are an application or product problem.
