DanTwoLakes It depends on how much you buy, but yes this is considered "transportation" grade vinyl, which means capable of holding up to being used as a car seat, and it would retail for $27 to $30 a yard. I could get it for you for less than that, but the shipping would probably be the killer. Send me a private message and we'll talk about it.

rack Hi DanTwoLakes,

It looks pretty much the same. Much much better than anything I could find here. Is this in the normal price range?

DanTwoLakes I would say you have Sierra Grain color Buckskin that has been polished with age. Here's a sample, which is 3" by 5 1/2". Look at the area on the outside of the driver's side seat back. That will give you the best idea of what it was to start with.

rack Hi DanTwoLakes,
Thanks for your efforts.
As far as I can tell, it is definitely not g-grain, and may be not oxen.
How big are these patches?

Here are some pictures I took. Here is 21:00 already so they are made on flash light. I will take better pictures on daylight tomorrow.

Thanks for the help,
Ivo

DanTwoLakes You know, the more I think about it, GM used four different grain patterns of vinyl from the 60's through the 80's, Madrid grain, Sierra grain, G-Grain, and Oxen grain. All of those grain patterns are still available. If I take close-up pictures, you might be able to tell what the grain is, and I can show you what is available.

rack Thanks a lot DanTwoLakes. I understand.

And to make things worst, I am overseas and have to chose it more or less blindly

Actually I am not so picky about it. If I find something closer, it will be enough.
I don't need it to be made in 1978
We just don't have any choice here.

Thanks for the help,
Ivo

DanTwoLakes I mean $60 to $75 a yard. Normal Vinyl is $18 to $22 a yard, and higher end vinyls are $27 to $45 a yard. You can find better prices than that on close outs, but you are looking for something specific that will match. Normally vinyl is about 54 to 56 inches wide. A yard is 36" by 54", which is 13.5 square feet.

rack Hello guys,
Thanks for replies.
I will check these web sites.

DanTwoLakes, what do you mean by "not inexpensive"? I have no idea how much is the normal price for vinyl. A saw some price between $40 and $60 per yard, but do not know who wide it is.

I need just to repair my driver seat, the other seats and upholstery are incredibly good.

Thanks a lot for your help,
Ivo

DanTwoLakes Detroit Body Products may have vinyl that old. SMS or Original Auto Interiors are your best choices. www.smsautofabric.com or http://originalauto.com/ Be prepared for a little sticker shock, these places are not inexpensive. SMS may possibly have the entire seat cover available.

LATECH also try this place.

Can I find this vinil type? (Pictures inside)

Hello sirs,
I need your help.
I am from Bulgaria, so it is hard to find parts for my 78' Monte Carlo here. I have some tear on my driver seat (see the attached pictures).
Is it possible to find this vinil type these days?
My only source of info internet and this great forum.
I will greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you,
Ivo
