hiya buddy , the centre panel with the diamonds on is 12 1/2 " wide by 17 1/2" long , the seat back i estimate to be around 17" wide by 24" long.
update on the porsche 944 seats im doing. boy what a pita these are to recover , the original covering was a brown plastic that was imprinted to look like vinyl , horrible nasty stuff  . to allow a new cover to be fitted ive had to use a little artistic licence , ive created a three peice back with hidden zips , this allows the front cover to be hogringed on .

ive followed the stitch lines in the front of the seat onto the back of the seat.
the passenger seats almost finished , just to smooth the cover out and `set` the piping in place .

.
take it easy guys , ade :ILU:T:

I'm talking about the whole diamond panel and the seat back itself.
..............So if there are 6 diamonds at 3" top to bottom, and 6 diamonds at 2" side to side, the piece is 12" (and a half inch) wide, and 18" tall, which was my point.

hi guys , yeah there are three 4mm thick wires in the seat , two run front to back and one runs across the front of the seat where the diamonds meet the smooth panel . the wires slide into a fabric tubing called calico tubing over here in the uk , , molded into the foam seat cushion are steel rods that the wires hook onto. ive added a knee roll on theses seats thats how ive got the profile also. cheers ade

Have to say, your work is amazing! Definitely convinced me to add diamond pleats to my project.

Perhaps a dumb question but are you cutting the foam first or simply sewing straight into it like Don Taylor's book? I've noticed that some people seem to cut the pattern into the foam first, wondering if that makes it last longer as this will be going into my daily driver.

Also, one of your threads mentioned "setting the piping." I was wondering what you meant by that. How are you getting it to line up just so?

Thanks and once again very impressive work. Hoping my adventures come out similar.

Cheers,
Dan

No, you don't need to cut the sew foam at all. Glue the vinyl to the sew foam, mark out whatever lines you are going to sew, and then sew the lines in. You'll need to have a pattern for the parts you are going to sew the diamonds on.

hi dan , sorry for the late reply , thanks for the comments , as dan two lakes stated , the vinyl or leather is simply tacked onto the scrimfoam or sewfoam , then the patterns marked out on the vinyl/leather and simply stitched through , one thing to take into account for is shrinkage , depending on the thickness of the sewfoam and the size of the diamonds , shrinkage can be anywhere between 1/4" to 1/2" of the total size of the material.
cutting the pattern into the foam allows deeper pleats to be done , similar to ron mangus`s way he did it on the grey seats for a chevy think it was.
when i mentioned setting the piping , i ment , getting the piping to line up and look smooth and uniform on the finished seat by pulling the cover into place .
chose a good quality vinyl and the seats will last even as a daily driver.
cheers ade
