35WINDOW Joe,

Yep, that is it! Darn, sorry to hear that it didn't work out, I was hoping to use one-thanks for showing that to me, I was racking my brain (and the internet) trying to find one-Oh well, sounds like you found the solution and luckily I won't have to learn the hard way-

Dave, Thanks for your input, and if I don't get to talk to you, I hope you and yours have a great Holiday this year-thanks to all!

Joe G You talkin' about one of these?

If this is the one you are referring to, they don't make them anymore.....and thank goodness for that. We ended up taking this one out after only 200 miles and scrapping it, due to a multitude of shortcomings. The worst of which was the tilt mechanism that would skip down a notch or two if you pulled back on the wheel. A friend of mine at another shop sent one back to the manufacturer for repairs to the tilt mech and turn signal switch three times before they finally gave up on their's too (all before the car was even finished).

We ended up putting an IdidIt shorty column in it, which we are far more pleased with. Good Luck.....

Irelands child Craig -
We haven't "spoken" for a while. Doing great on this side of the country and waiting for winter

That big ol' bell is for the U-joint as well as the tilt mechanism. When I put mine in, I (of course!!) took it further apart then usually prudent and it is filled with that pair of u joint forgings, a locking device plus a big spring. Then you add in the directional switch, 4 way emergency flasher switch, horn operator, the usual GM coded wiring plus the steering shaft and you are out of room. But, with that said, I too kinda recall something smaller, My guess is that it's sans the switches and wiring and is a bare column, steering shaft and a latch.

35WINDOW Dave,

Thanks for your response. Now that I'm finally getting my seating situation worked out, I'm getting close to the steering issue-I was hoping to find a column with a smaller (for a lack of a better term) "Bell"-the housing that houses the turn signals, tilt mechanism. I know you can buy a regular, straight type Roadster Column-like this:

I remember one that looked the same, but it had a tilt option-maybe old-timers is takin' hold!

Anyway, hope things are going well for you and yours!

Irelands child Craig - CCR has a small diameter tilt and of course there are the IDIDIT (which I have) and Flaming River versions.
