Filling trim holes - question/pic

So I migged the trim holes closed, ground them down, spread my filler , sanded , epoxied, etc. Last step is I'm going to seal the back side of the holes with Zero Rust. Does this sound good ? Asking because someone mentioned after welding/grinding I should have epoxied or glassed. Back to the old filler over bare metal or epoxy scenario I guess, I can't imagine I don't have it covered at this point (?).

Over my welds and ground areas I use etching primer and then epoxy sealer designed for filler to adhere to either ppg or transtar and then I mud (but to each his own) I also use rust kill, and epoxy sealer on the back side of the welds if I can get too it.

Every one has their own way:thumbup:

Hope I helped

If you are applying epoxy primer you don't need the etch. I would toss that zero rust mort or any other "McRust" product and stick with real automotive refinish products. Clean the back of the weld good and apply an epoxy primer.

You want to do this before you do filler work because you heat the metal with your roloc disc or what ever you are using to clean the rust out. You want nice shiny metal for the epoxy primer.

Once the metal is welded and cleaned appying filler right over it isn't a big deal, applying epoxy primer then the filler is better. But probably about 99% of repairs across America like this the filler would be applied over the bare metal. If you do it properly once you clean the metal and you surface the filler then apply primer over that in a timely manner you are fine. But applying an epoxy before the filler is even better.

what do you do if there is zero access to the backside of a weld, like in a double wall situation? When I get my Camaro project finished I'll be moving back to my BB elcamino and am planning to fill a lot of trim holes around the top of the bed. Do I just hope it well? It will be exposed to minimal rain and absolutely no snow as long as I own it.
