What I do for narrow fenders is to get a pair of trailer fenders and take a strip out of the middle and weld them back together to get the width I need..makes wider fenders as well by inserting a piece..those are usually 18 gauge and not herd to work with..
A lot of options, In the 50's we used the chrome spare tire covers from continental Kits ( for the youngsters, thats when you extended the back bumper brackets back and mounted the spare tire between the trunk and bumper. ) a lot of the 70's custom vans had outside mounted spare tires and metal covers.
