Project89 yup looks like the sprag, put the car up on stands wound the motor upo in first gear and shifted to 3rd gear and got nothing.if it was a broken sunshell it should have shifted to third gear and it didnt.


going to pull the trans check for carnage and see if its fixable and also if i can get a better sprag,if not ill more then likley be getting a th400 with trans brake or a 4l80 /w brake or might even go 2004r /w brake

sounds like you may have also broke the forward sprag as well. a broken governor gear will not cause a loss of reverse.

car will not move with shifter in 2,d,(od) or r

the trans was built with a tci master rebuild kit,beast sunshell,megaboost valve,vette servo,and shiftkit with manual/auto shifting fully auto in (od) manual shift in any other range

whyholdback I found NO broken parts in mine, beyond one chipped tooth on one gear. My sun shell was decent.
My first drive, I got to 5700 in first with the shifter in OD, then in D, then in 2, then in 1. With no alternative, I did a half-donut and returned to my driveway still in first.

what happened was i was out cruising and i decided to test my antilag setup. so i was rolling down the street in second gear and pressed the antilag button and went wot.the antilag keeps the motor at 2500 rpms while adding fuel/retarding the gnition timming and droping spark to allow raw fuel into the turbo headers.it worked perfect boost jumped right up i let go of the button and the car jumped heard a loud band then the motor just free reved and bounced off the limiter.

so far ive checked the fluid, its not burnt up, shifter linkage is adjusted properly as is the tv cable.
no funny whining or noises from the transmissions.

i do plan on pulling the valve body down tommorow and taking a look

u guys have any ideas on things i can check with the trans in the car that might cause this before i yank it out and start tearing it down

ok, unless you are in manual 1, the trans is not going to have engine braking.
also, unless you run up enough mph and theres no 2nd gear, you wont know if its got any other forward gears (suspecting broken/stripped sunshell typical symptoms for a bad shell is no reverse, 2nd or 4th).
with the loud bang, pulling the valve body is a waste of time as with a noise like that, i can assure you that the problem is not going to be valve body related. also, with that in mind, im willing to bet that the sunshell has failed.

whyholdback No upshift was the reason I rebuilt the first trans I ever rebuilt. It was an '84 700R-4. First check is the governor gear, but if that's good, then the next check is the valves. If none are stuck, then you're probably facing a rebuild, same as I was. I used a B&M Super TransKit, which is no longer offered, and it worked out fine.

the issues are i only have 1st gear it will not upshift into any other gear(even manually shifted) and has no reverse.
when moving the car in first gear there is no engine braking at all,let off the gas an its liek the car is neutral
