door that will not close properly

I just bought my cousin's car and will pick it up in NJ in May. He now tells me he had an accident with his rear passenger car door. The car rolled backwards while in neutral and hit into a wall, springing the back door hinges, so now the door does not close fully, and there is a quarter inch gap between the door and frame that is exposed to the elements.
How can I personally fix this door as best possible? I will be taking the car from NJ to Oregon and have a somewhat limited time to get it up to snuff befoe the cross country trip. Any tricks of the trade welcome on this. It is an older car, so I am not especially concerned about just the perfect fit, but one that will allow the car door to close and lock.

Thanks for your help!
