If you shorten the rear frame section the 12" it should work fine. It will be very close to what a short bed truck was, so geometry shouldn't be affected. Might even check the driveline/wheelbase of a similar shortbed first, and see if it's close enough, then cut to that length so you could use a actory driveline from a junkyard.
As John Se mentioned, you'll want to cut the frame the needed length, then plate over the area after welding it back together. I would also box the inside for about 12"-24", just for a bit of extra strength.

my thought was making the older sedan a 4x4
it's a lwb truck, so it might not be too bad shortening it
if this was the case then all the difference could be taken out of the long bed section?
in other words shorten the rear drive shaft and the frame in front of rear axle mounts the needed 12"?
then l would need to box that portion of the frame or the whole thing?
how much will the loss of drive shaft length affect the geometry of the rear drive train?
some serious rookie questions huh?

Or you could build an altered wheelbase 4x4!
Actually you could relocate the rear wheelwells to allow the wheelbase to match, but only if moving the wheelwells back wont look hideous. I've seen a few pass. car bodies on 4x4 chassis that were slight difference and because they sat fairly high, it wasn't so obvious.

|John Se||you will need to cut the frame, using a scarf/diagonal cut some place where it will come back together the best, then reinforce your cut with steel at least three times the width of your cut. Not that bad if you have a good nice flat place to work and it is mostly stripped. and a nice 220v Mig, grinders and clamps, chop saw|

l have a good 4x4 truck motor/drive train with a 133" wheelbase
recently found an old sedan with a 121" wheelbase
probably too large a difference?
is there a general rule for wheelbase differences working on a swap like l'm interested in without huge modifications?
obviously i've never attempted anything like this before and would appreciate some input
my experience with body swapping is limited to a same yr cab swap on my '66 f100, thankx
