1932 Bantam, I did just that! Pain in the neck I don't need. I thought I do something different because I always used chains never a gear. Never again lesson learned.

Easiest way to solve this is to use the Cloyes billet cover with the adjustable cam button. About $125. Looks great, doesn't flex and allows fine adjustment of Cam button lash to prevent walking.
I use it and it works well. Set it to zero lash cold and when things warm up it's set. It has an adjustable roller button built in. Here's what it looks like before installing. As a side benefit it allows cam changes with out pulling the balancer or pan.

I'm not going to comment on whether or not you need a button. On engines that I put a button on I find you need to use a cover with raised ribs on them to get the button to clear.

You don't need to use a button on a flat tappet cam (roller cams need a button though)
The problem I had was with the dual idler gears. They want to come forward.
If you are set on gear drive, the Milodon 3 gear is a better setup

|1932bantam||throw the gear drive in the trash, buy a 30.00 timing chain and save yourself alot of headaches. I seen 2 engines get trashed last year when they came apart and they will.|

Cam button help
I have a gear drive on a SBC, it's one of those low cost eBay jobs. I had to cut down the button, not a good move! How do you know what length to get? The button I had the timing kicked out about 1/4" or so. So now I no cutting down a roller button doesn't work. Someone please tell the easiest way to get this done and don't beat me up......too bad!
