02-07-2012 07:45 PM
Jim Rockford Can't understand what you are typing? Are you saying that someone told you you can't use the later model 700 planetarys ?
02-06-2012 09:47 PM
mafiacustomz ok i realy need help now i was looking online and found that i cant switch the 82-86 700r4 front planetary into my 91 700r4 any one know if thats right i hope not low on cash and the longer it stays in pieces the more likly i will lose something.
02-05-2012 05:00 PM
mafiacustomz yep after taking the trans all apart that is the only thing wrong them gears so i will rebuild what i can thin pull the 86 700r4 out of my car and get them gears out of their
02-05-2012 03:09 PM
tnsmith10 that would be the front planetary. that is where the needle bearings came from.
02-04-2012 08:18 PM
mafiacustomz i think the needle bearings came out of the gear in the sun gear that was broke in half
02-04-2012 06:39 PM
mafiacustomz update here are some more picks of that sun gear cant find any needle bearing cup
02-04-2012 05:48 PM
mafiacustomz ok i have the transmission all apart and still cant find any needle bearings or needle bearing case where did these come from can they get from the torque converter into the trans
02-04-2012 04:32 PM
mafiacustomz yea they want like 800 for a trans around here i dont know if i can get a blown trans from any junk year but i do have a 86 700r4 trans in my car now i guess im going to have to make a franken trans
02-04-2012 03:35 PM
Crosley You need to get the trans fully apart. Then clean up the parts , cept for the obvious blown up stuff.

It may be cheaper to buy a core trans for replacement parts or start over with a 2nd core to build.

mafiacustomz update look at these sun gears its the input and small sun gear

if these are like that what is the rest of it going to look like and i still dont know where these small needle bearings came from P.S. them gears are $63 for both of them
02-04-2012 07:01 AM
mafiacustomz its not as bad as it looks you cant realy feel how deep it is its super shallow i didnt wat to take the trans down any more until i made sure i can still use these parts. I dont know where these needle bearing came from today i will go take the input gear out thin the sun gear and hope to see just a bad bearing that i can replace.
02-04-2012 06:18 AM
tnsmith10 you need to dig deeper. theres a front planetary that goes under the input drum. either youre seeing needles from the roller bearings from the planet or a roller type washer has failed.
as far as what you see on the input drum. it does look pretty gouged but, as long as what you see is on the outside, i dont think its that big of a deal to reuse. maybe just hit it with some sand paper to smooth it out.

mafiacustomz he ill try to post these pics
02-03-2012 06:30 PM
mafiacustomz their are needle bearings from somewhere in between the sun gear and input drum and it cut about 1/32 of a inch maybe less out of the input drum do i have to replace the input drum or can i use it
