4 hour work day for me at the shop. Used the time to do a valve body swap on a '01 Jetta 1.8t auto .... I successfully installed a transbrake on the car .... that however wasn't my intention.

Its in 2 gears at once in park, all other gears (R/N/D/2/1) are forward gears.... they all seam to be first gear.

I have it torn back down most of the way. Tuesday I'll actually get the VB back out and see whats up.... but part of me wants to take it out for a test drive the way it is just for the fun of it.

Brian, if you have a lot of trouble finding the gaskets for your lenses you can buy a roll of cork at the art supply store or hobby shops and make them yourself...
Thanks, I believe that is exactly what I will do. I spent my five minutes last night on line looking for the gaskets and they don't make them. So I will be taking that advice and making some. The hardware store may have some rubber or foam that will work too.

Going Ford

A friend has a 1990 Mustang convertible. He has installed an eight point roll cage, frame connectors, a 347 in SBF, with way too much head or way too little cam. He has just found out the car has basically no value and has offered it to me, if I'd turn it into a bracket racer. So today was the first day on the project.

Tonight I used the patterns for the floor halves and cut some sheet metal. I still don't quite understand everything about using the metal brake, but they turned out great!. A little bit more trimming and they are ready. Went ahead & cut a piece and rolled it for the back part of the tunnel. I saved the "easy" pieces for tomorrow. I hope to have most of the floor pieces ready this weekend. I think I need to complete most everything else; brake & fuel lines, wiring, etc. before I put them in permanently. Going to try to get the seat rails figured out also. Any advise on how to do the front of the trans tunnel? Cone shapes are not me favorites. Bob

Well, not much done, but darn it, that five minutes. :) I went looking for the gasket material for the park lamp lenses but wasn't happy with anything available. The only one I found that was thick enough was made of real large chunks and it would break if cut as narrow as this gasket needs to be.

They had a rubber floor runner or something by the foot that would have been perfect darn it, but it had ribs on the top.

Anyway, I decided to try what I had used for my clutch and brake pedal seals on the floorboard, pipe insulation. :D It worked perfect, it's too thick but compresses nice so it should work. The hard part is getting it to unroll and flatten out! I have it under some books on the dining table right now.

today, I plan on building my eliptical machine, (fitness) then go into the mad scientist lab ,and try again to make the wood inserts for the gauge panel.. first time was a major fail.. me thinking I could make round cuts with a saber saw.. they where round, but not good enough.. bought some hole saws.. so we'll be cooking with gas now.. just nowhave to figure out how to angle the outside cut.. as the gauge panel is 1" thick and the holes are smaller on the inner side than the face, by 3/8th" so, I'll mount the inserts on a bolt and spin it on the drill press(poormans lathe) and with a sanding block. hand fit them.. then cut the inner hole and router the edge..
then fire up the replacement computer, as this one is 4 weeks old have locks up..(dells testing showed harddrive on way out) the send a computer but it was the wrong one.. so.. fingers crossed this one will be correct..
then load everything onto the new one.. and then I can built a build thread/journal ..
then get ready to .wire the gauges, and be clean and ready to watch, our pats, kill the N.Y. jets.. :boxing: :spank:

Good luck with your gauge panel stitch626.
Brian, I have used packing foam as lens gaskets before but I'm not sure where I got it as it was years ago.
It is a dense white foam about 3/32 to 1/8" thick.
I'll be looking for some myself for the tail light lenses on the rambler.
I'll be assembling the lower end of my motor this morning with luck.
I had to send out my new rods to have the wrist pin bushings replaced because the last shop honed them oversize.

Finished the inside of my trunk.
I originally was going to carpet it and thought with the fuel cell and battery in there it might not be a good idea in case I have a fuel spill, or should I say, when I have a fuel spill.
Anyway, I ended up shooting it with reduced bed liner material and then an top coat of gray and black spatter paint and I must say I like the results.
I threw some of the hardware in the trunk so I can figure out the cleanest way to route the wiring and shot some pics.

Wish me luck putting this short block together.
You guys have a great day.
