Keep in mind I'm a DIYer at this and I have read enough to no there are alot variables that can come in to play. It has been 7 or 8 months since the paint job so I'm a little rusty on details of the actual paint mixes.
Chips to the epoxy. Best I can tell the epoxy primer/sealer is fine. Just something happened between the BC/sealer. And the clear does not have that pop. I used a pint of PPG clear on the fender flares and they look assume. Only thing I can think of is that I sprayed the sealer to thick around the fender wheels and the sealer did not flash off good. I wet sanded and buffed this truck pretty good it never pulled any paint lose or anything.
Yep the clear was 3:1. In came with the correct ratio.
When I sprayed the epoxy primer as sealer I reduced it about 30%. Tech sheet says 10%-50%. Basically I choose somewhere in between.

I see some problems here ....
when you say it chips easily does it chip down to the metal ,epoxy or base coat ???
1:1 is great for spraying bare metal but to use as a sealer it needs to be reduced to get a slick enough texture for paint the reducer also speeds up the cure time..depending on what your trying to do ,SPI should be reduced from 10-40 %...a straight 1:1 mix can take up to 3 days to cure.
a 40% reduction can take 2hrs

Well best as I can remember.
Time frame is due to high temperatures during the day.
The body temperature on the truck was about 85 degrees according to my infrared gun. fan pulling filtered air thru garage. Fan was turned off between every coat.
6:00-7:00 p.m. SPI epoxy primer as a sealer I believe 1:1 for sealer.
tac raged between every coat
8:30-9:30 p.m. applied the 1St BC
10:30-11:30 p.m. applied the 2nd BC
12:30-1:30 a.m. applied the 3rd BC
SPI M.S. CLEAR 4:1
2:30-3:30 a.m. applied 1st clear coat
4:30-5:30 a.m. applied 2nd clear coat
Clear coat did not spray very well because the gun tip was maybe to small.
It did however wet sand and buff out nicely but seems to lose its shine after the oil in the compounds evaporate. Had some a couple of minor sags in the clear.

|jeremyb||IF it doesn't shine, something must have went wrong. Which clear did you use, and how did you mix? How long did you wait after sealer was applied before applying the dbc?|

Spi Sealer/deltron Basecoat/spi Clearcoat?
I repainted a 1994 2 DR yukon which has fender flares. I removed the fender flares to repaint the vehicle. After painting and waiting approximately 7 to 10 days I reinstalled the fender flares and the paint crinkled along the edge of the fender flare. Really no other problems to speak of with the paint job. Paint does seem to chip easy from rocks and such but no paint lifting etc.
It appears there where some bonding issues with thePPG BC and SPI sealer. The clear coat was wet sanded and buffed with no problems although it never appeared to shine. Planning to do some scratch repair on the vehicle from my teenager. Just wondering if anyone had experience this before or had any thoughts on this?
