I got tired of replacing the TH350 transmissions in my 82 Silverado, and decided after the last TH350 went, it was time for a TH400. Best move I have ever made! Solid shifts, no lag, and I don't thyink I'll wear it out like the TH350's. Now, the "short" length TH400 is actually shorter than the 9" extension housing TH350 transmissions used in most trucks. I did'nt want to swap driveshafts, or have one made; so, I got a "longer" slip yoke to make up for the driveshaft being just a bit short. This yoke can be cut down as needed, but I did'nt do this. I should have as it bottomed out on the speedometer gear in the trans and shifted it's placement. I don't have a speedometer that currently works due to that, but when the weather finally gets decent again I'll shorten the yoke and reset the speedometer gear. I don't remember the part number for the slip yoke; I got it off of E-Bay. One of it's applications was for use with a transfer case, that may help your search.
