The return springs that came with the Edelbrock progressive linkage were garbage. They were different dia and length. They also had a short heavy pull.
I found some s/s 4" ultra-precision springs from Mcmaster Carr. The spring tension is lighter than the ones from the edelbrock kit and have a better feel. Mcmaster also has the spring pulls
I'm going to order the Inovative LM-2 wideband kit to tune these carbs.

Carb returns are trick!! Match the rest of the linkage. Nice thing about afb's is you can reach in and adjust the mixture screws from the side using a couple fingers.

I built one once but it was a 59 GMC. Long gone now but still tearing up the asphalt in northern BC with a blown 496 BBC.

Hey thanks. I'm going to order the kit that's the same for the current Edelbrock 500 cfm 
My primary carb is in the rear. Aparently, the carbs I have were made to run together. The rear carb  has a choke and the normal vac ports. The front carb  does not have a choke or any vac ports.
I'm currently building the fuel lines for it now. I'm going to use AGS NiCopp 3/8 line plumbed into a Canton Racing fuel filter [pic above]. I'm going to braze 2 edelbrock banjo fittings to the Nicopp line [limited clearance - see pic]
I just got my progressive linkage sorted out. Check out my return springs and mounts. I installed 2 s/s studs with spring pulls from McMaster-Carr

Best to go with one that's the same size. That's the advantage you have now. When I built my carbs I used a pair of old Carter strip-kits which covered all of them. I started with a box of old carbs and matched venturis and jets and rods and made a pair that would work. I'm sure your carbs come complete already.
Mine worked good. Hauled the mail and still pulled down good mileage. I built my own linkage to hook them together and set up the front carb as my primary and the back carb as my secondary that opened after the front was about 2/3 rd's open. Even built my own air cleaners. Big oval one and also 2 smaller oval ones that I turned sideways. Used aluminum flat sheets. Lots of fun.
Only problem I had was fuel pressure set up and float levels as I lived at 3500 feet above sea level.

Is there any particulair kit I need to get? They have a few different ones.
I'm guessing my 500 cfm Carter AFB's would be similar to the Edelbrock Performer 1404, which is also a 500 cfm carb & manual choke

Edelbrock Calibration Kit - will it work on an old Carter?
I've got a pair of 500 cfm Competition Series Carters, p/n's 4758 and 4761.
They are going on my dual quad 455 Olds.
Can I use an Edelbrock tuning/calibration kit for these carbs? If not, why and what are the differences?
