my87Z okay so i picked up the truck this afternoon and she sounds great! the thrush welded mufflers are perfect, they don't pop nor give that annoying blap, there is no popping when you let off the gas, but yet it is still loud. i would recomend these mufflers to anybody. they sound great, similar to a flowmaster 40 (maybe a touch louder) but yet still flow far more than the flowmaster 40's or even the super 44's. all that for 37.00 per muffler, vs the 65-70.00 per flowmaster 40/ super 44's.

even the guy who did the exhaust was suprised as he hadn't put a set of these on a truck yet. he was also loving the CD that i had playing in my truck; Credence Clear Water Revival's (CCR) greatest hits, he was jammin'

my87Z Dropped the truck off today, told them to go ahead and cut the resonators off, put the thrush welded muffler on it and to use 4" slant cut tips comming out at a 45 degree angle behind the rear tires. I pick it up later tomorrow. So I'll post them what I think of it

I agree with jsaw. Why not just eliminate the muflers (and possibly the resonators) and keep just the cats. My son had a shop do that on his F150 and it sounded great. Many others around here do the same with Dodge Rams and GM trucks and get a nice exhaust sound.

i just looked up the mufflers you are talking about and they are still 75.00 a piece, where as the thrush welded mufflers, made of the same material, are 37.00 a piece. i'm not much for paying twice as much for a name. and with magnaflow that is exactly what you are paying for.

ChadGresham Good choice there man, just keep workin on it till it sounds the way you want. My friend and i had a phase where we wanted to have the loudest trucks around, we must have changed our set ups 8 times between the two of us... Its all fun with exhaust!!! good luck

southshore30 Not all of the Magnaflows are $100+, those are the stainless steel polished mufflers. They make a aluminized steel muffler as well for much cheaper. If you did get the stainless mufflers, I have two on my 357sbc powered CJ7, they will last longer than the rest of the piping. Go with the shorter ones for louder and as someone else suggested, can you try omitting the resonators before trying anything else? Cut them off and replace with pipe

my87Z The thrush welded mufflers are almost identicle to the flow master 40's but yet flow much better, they are not the same as the thrush turbos the turbos are a little above stock. What I have decided to do is go with the thrush welded mufflers and I have spoken to the owner of the shop doing the work and he is okay with letting me hear it after the muffler install to see if it loud enough, if it's not them they will remove the resonators and just weld straight pipe in its place

jsaw Glass packs or cherry bombs will give you the snapping popping noise.

Around here, lots of guys just run twin tailpipes after the converters with no mufflers.
The converters quiet them down enough for Me, but I like to hear the pipes.

6426yy I had an 02 Silverado 2500HD. My truck had dual 3" from the factory into the stock muffler with the single tailpipe. My truck didn't have resonators on it and I had dual tail pipes with a magnaflow muffler with the built in x pipe installed. Well it sucked, the guy at the shop necked it down to 2.5 pipe and it was barely louder than stock. I finally got p'd and cut the muffler off and welded in straight pipes, with the cats. It's sounded like glasspacks after that, which I don't really like but at least I could hear it.

ChadGresham You could remove some of the resonators or something. Probably not the cats because newer motors need those to run right (i think?) thrush glass packs are what i have on my truck, but they have that popping (which i like) so you wouldn't go with those. Turbo mufflers are too quiet, I've tried some before. Look between flowmaster and magnaflow, they have some decent priced mufflers that will sound good on your truck. If you want louder, i'd separate and go with two mufflers instead of one

400smb_s10 I see what you mean with the mufflers I looked at the cfm charts bah...!! anyways I would put the thrush or cherrry bomb on with 3 inch tail pipes. the bigger the tail pipe the louder it will be.

my87Z I fully understand what you mean about the glass packs on your vehicle. my play toy is a 87' camaro with a 385cid that also has full length 1 3/4" primary headers going into 3" pipes but i dont have glass packs i have the dynomax 16.5"x4" bullets, that runs 11.20's and yes it certainly is loud. I wouldn't not want my truck to be that loud, but i think when you combine the resonator, catalytic converter, and either the glass pack or the thrush welded muffler it will muffle a heck of a ton more than just glass packs sitting on straight pipe.

you mentioned you wanted to put flowmaster 40's on your vehicle. you should do some research on how the flowmasters acutally flow vs some of the other brands. you will find that they are next to the bottom of the list when it comes to CFM. now i dont believe in paying 100+ for a single muffler like you would with Magnaflow, but dynomax (who makes thrush) makes mufflers extremely similar the 40 has but yet acutally flows much better and cost about $20-30.00 cheaper.

my87Z I've had the truck (with same exhaust on it) for 5yrs, and it has 3.5" tips on it now. i've always wanted it to be louder but couldn't justify spending 450-500.00 on exhaust that there was nothing structuraly wrong with. but now the exhaust hangers have rusted and broken loose of the pipe, causing a hole. so now i can justify getting the louder exhaust i've wanted.

another guy where i work had the 2-in/2-out flowmaster 40's put on his truck with 2.5" pipe and 3.5" tips about 3 months ago, and it sounds decent (slightly louder than mine) but it's still isn't very loud. i would be aggrivated if mine came out sounding like his, he even wishes his was louder.

I seriously think that the fact that these trucks have a dual resonators, and dual catalytic converters makes them a bit quiter from the start

400smb_s10 I would give the muffler time to break in and maybe update your tail pipes to 3" and 3.5" tips

my87Z Thank for replying, I have a muffler ver similar to what you mentioned, and since the truck has the resonators plus the cats, it just not very loud at all, it has a soft tone, and if I get on it it sounds descent but it's just too quite
