multimeter reading high voltage

figured it out. It was to simple. The multimeter 9v battery was at 4.5 volts. when replaced with fresh battery brought the multimeter right back in range.

kc0kfg Well if your house current is reading high as well I assume its reading above 126Vac that's whats allowed, I have seen as high as 130vac but its not common.

If your meter is out of range I think you have you answer already, buy a new one.

I just picked up a spare one from sears (well I had to go twice to replace the first one since it was broken out of the box)

What makes you think its the meter? I would check a known source or borrow another meter and use that to check the source that was showing 19v>12v.

It just be be your meter is right.
