My 1982 dodge Ram D150 has a carb 318 engine that is always starting hard? How do I get rid of my hard start for my truck and so it can fire up with one turn of the key not holding it for 2 minutes so it can turn over?

Used to have this problem with my 86 Chevy had quadrajet carb and i'd have to pump the gas pedal so the accel. pump would put fuel down into the intake. My thoughts are since carburetors aren't closed systems like FI, fuel drains back into the tank after a while and takes alot of time for the mechanical fuel pump to bring it back to the motor. See if you can install a check valve in the fuel line close to the tank to hold the fuel in the line

I hear you on the "hard-starting Dodge" annoyance factor.

I used to imagine it saying: "No-no-no, no-no-no ... I don't want to start" :pain:

Dodge used a gear-reduction starter, and the big-blocks in particular seemed to have a very slow cranking speed. This may have resulted in longer periods of cranking to get the fuel up.

Perhaps an electric fuel pump with a regulator may be part of the solution?
