cal1320 Made some more improvements on the truck. Changed the engine to a GM 10067353, moved the fuel tank to the rear with a 57 Belair tank, and am in the process of installing a new roof. Need to have the seat refoamed and install seat heaters before March 2016. Planning a 2200 mile trip to Austin Tx and back.

57halfton Sold my 57 almost a year ago, it went to a gentleman in Texas, when he got it he tore it down to the bare frame and started rebuilding from there.

57halfton dag , I had 8 1/2 inch wide wheels on the rear of my 57 with 275-60-15 tires and they just barely fit between the outer fender lip and the side of the bed. I don't think you can go much wider without tubbing the bed.

dsraven just wondering if anybody has used the aftermarket vertical inner fender brace at the rear of the fender. it is supposed to be for a 58-59 but does it fit the 55-57 as well?

dag19 Oh man, that sounds like a nice setup. It has everything I'd want to have as well. How much offset is the 8.8? I have a 700R4 hooked up to the stock rear end right now.

dsraven sorry, not up on my 9" stuff. I used a ford 8.8 from an explorer under the original frame on mine. I got disc brakes, large axles, 3.73 gears with posi and cheap to top it all off. the pumpkin is slightly offset though. no biggie for me since there was nothing else under there yet. 8.8 stuff is quite easy to find and they are a pretty tough unit.

dag19 From what I recall reading, you are correct about the 61". Do you know what the most common size of 9" rear ends are out there?

dsraven I think the stock axle, wheel mouting surface to wheel mounting surface, is 61". could be wrong but if you google a spec page from old car manuals or the like you should be able to get that spec. it would also depend on the back spacing of the new wheels. if you want a deep dish then a narrower axle would be great.

dag19 What's the correct width of a Ford 9 inch for my '55? Right now everything is stock but hope to run some 9 inch wide rims. Will there be any issues in the wheel wells of the stepside?

Glove box arms

Gentlemen, I am in need of a set of glove box arms for my old task force truck. Does anyone have a set they want to part with or know where I can find a set without having to buy the door and bracket to get the arms? Please help. Thanks.

sub frame

Take a look at my project journal. I documented just about every step of the sub frame swap. The only two negatives are 1: rear steer setup with the gen 1 sub frame, and 2: front drum brakes. I bought my 1981 Firebird sub frame with mostly good parts for 150.00. I would look around first to see what you can find.

posting pictures

Why do I never see photos in photo alblums?

ogre they do handle a lot better with new underpinnings
truk has sway bars front and rear with minimal body roll when cornering
nothing like stock suspension
like driving a big go cart

as for posting pics in threads; it should be the same as posting in a journal
use the [img] [/img] tags or use the yellow picture icon that does it automatically for you
i use photobucket to host my pics, easier to post in a couple of forums
