nskeeter99 thanks guys i called a couple of welders and they said for the time it would be 150 to 200. the tranny shop that did my rebuild told me they would swap my good parts to my spare case for 250 so i thing thats my best option.

wielding 700r

Hello, i had a 700r welded, on the bell housing, and it worked fine, i had the trany shipped to me, and when i got it, the ear was broke off, rite where the bolt hole lined up with the block, cost me 50.00. I did have a little problem tho, The weld was in the way just a bit, so it made it hard to tighten it down, but you could do it...lol. it worked great..good luck and have a great day...

If it helps, i have picture of it being wielded....

S10xGN If any of the welds are to be made in areas that have been machined, forget it and buy a new case. If it's just the bell, go for it...

mmerlinn Unless you get it lined up perfectly, and you have a perfect weld, you are most likely to wind up with a pile of trash.

Better to recase your transmission.

welding a 700r4 bell housing

I have an 81 Datsun 4x4 with a 350 and 700. my tcas is divorced. With that being said tonight my drive shaft bolts broke loose the the short d shaft. the tcase breaking it and the bell housing on the 700. I found a few post on here about wielding but they were all cracks. I just spent 1600 having this thing build and hate to lose it. So can i weld the housing back and it hold as well as a stock tranny would?
