|airmentbob||gonna run some home made 1" inside diameter bearings as sliders on a pocket kit on a 55 with trailing arms for ladder bars. it was funny someone tried to tell me that trailing arms can't be used because they will bend with the rotational force of the axle housing. i started laughing. i guess they didn't work on c-10 trucks back in the day either...lol. what purpose did the torque tube do on the classic old school pre 55 cars. yeah, apparently they had very good traction. but the slider on the front half is so it doesn't bind. axle floaters function as well|

I was at the salvage yard the other day and saw some beefy factory locator bars under a couple of 4 x 4 suv's. coil spring rears, non adjustable. The car would have to be supported by the axles when doing the locations for mounting the brackets. In the 50's we used non adjustable bars.

I made a set of traction bars for our V8 beetle with a ford 8.8" rear end, it wasn't too bad to do. I had to buy the tubing, but I had the rest of the steel laying around, and the heim joints came from McMaster Carr.
You can see more pics of them on my website at:

so the pics are the current set up?
if so, I would make a rod/bar that goes from the bracket on the bottom of the u-bolts, to the back of sub connectors
also: is that a wheel cyl. or axle seal leaking

Let me add: I have NO wheel hop with these new mid-eye leafs (I think they're 4 leaf but you may see in the picture I just took). I had "slap on" bars that welded to the subframe; however, as you can see in the picture, with the new subframe connectors now in place, the slap on bars were too long (from axle to the subframe connector base).
So I thinking I'll just get a pair of non-weld bars like these $50 Lakewoods from Summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LAK-20470/

What Traction Bars you got?
Traction bars - old school, new school, let me know what you have and like and why. I need to decide on a pair.
I have a standard 9" rear and I'm not dragging or racing but want something non-welded (bolt on) that looks nice (old school) and will keep the rear from buckling or wheel hop.
