I hate it happened but to my untrained eye it looks like it could have been much worse considering the size of that tree.

Good luck with it.

John.
Painting the new floor body color will be really cool....

You are right, it could have been worse. The tree is 30" diameter where it snapped off, 5 ft high. There's 30 ft to the garage and the garage is 30 ft, with another 15 ft hanging over the front. The tree was approximately 75 ft tall...

I feel the same way, David. If that wall had collapsed too, the garage might be totaled and a few valuable things inside as well. I was very relieved to see the integrity hadn't been compromised to allow someone access inside. That door under the tree opened like there was nothing unusual with that tree laying on top of the wall.

When I started cutting the main trunk I could hear my dad saying "there's no way you're going to cut it with that little saw". I had to chuckle. He always underestimated my "tenacity"... RIP Dad.

5 trusses broken but the wall held with the double header. My Dad built this and he always over engineered things. The studs are also at 16" O/C instead of the 24" he could've made it. The wall doesn't even have a bow in it.

Started clearing off the brush with the pole saw. My 18" saw won't run so this is all I had. The cutting bar is only 12" long.

Down to the main trunk.

There's 3 ft of that limb inside the garage.

Decided I'd try to cut off the trunk and let it drop. I figured the trunk on the roof would need to be cut up in small enough pieces to roll off later.

The tree was rotted hollow in the center. I didn't know that before.

I'm going to see what the insurance will do about the tree removal and clean up too. I'm getting too old for this $h!t...

Well, it looks to me like you are going to have a new roof soon.

well if you don't like the weather here, just wait 15 minutes! After a torrential downpour, it's now dry and sunny!

I got 3 steps up the ladder and cut the other side. I couldn't believe it when the huge trunk rolled off the roof when it broke.

The MIGHTY saw that could...

I called the insurance company and started a claim. This isn't something I have time to deal with.

I pushed the soffit and fascia back up and nailed them to what was left of the rafters so I had something to attach the tarp to.

My brother got there about 1:30 and was just in time to help put the tarp on.

sportcoupe looks like a big storm coming through here in maine tonight. just got back from weekly meet a Denny's before it rains.
finished putting the engine back together this week. with the new valve springs adjusted correctly the engine is like night and day difference in running. took another 1/4 turn to tighten the valves and the car runs great. the only problem is the temp , got up to 210 by the time i got home.
Can't seem to get all the air out of the system. I'm thinking of changing out the thermostat tomorrow it may be sticking. a friend told me to drill a small 1/8 hole in the edge of the thermostat before i put it in which will help bleed the air out. I give it a try.

MARTINSR John, I just took a similar picture of an amazing sunset a few days ago, where the rays were shooting up thru the clouds like that, so beautiful, what a blessing!

Today I went to the RV store and the hardware store and got a bunch of stuff for the trailer. It's looking like I will be able to get that tank up in there working tomorrow night.

Much of the area is without power from downed trees but I have a generator to run a skilsaw and the cabin on, if needed.

It's frustrating sitting here wondering if it is badly damaged and open to vandals.
I know all of us on here wish you luck and will be waiting for an update.
