The TH700-R4 is popular among the small block crowd. It can "take" a bit of power. There are several vendors that offer beefed-up versions.
For the higher torque and power of bigger engines, we prefer TH200-4R. They "live" behind the big Pontiacs where the TH700-R4 doesn't, so they can take ANYTHING a small block can dish out.
TH400 is the toughest of all of them. It also "uses" more power to "drive" it than other transmissions (larger internal parts). TH400 offers a unique shifting capability, however, making it the most popular 3-speed auto trans.
TH350 will be fine behind a small block, too.

|1966tempest||thanks for the info. my dad is a ford guy so he doesnt know the sbc stuff so im on my own on this one. what size cam would be hot enough for track use but mild enough for everyday driving. and my dad was saying the 700r4 is not a good trans for the track, is there a way to either beef it up or should i stick with the th350/400?|

This topic came up recently in another thread here. We have ground the mains "down" on 350 cranks to use them in small journal blocks fairly often. As long as one doesn't "push" the engine hard (over 6,500, maybe 450 HP), it should "live" just fine. Lots more low-end torque. Plenty of "high-end". If you want more than 350 HP, I'd use a forged crank. For a milder build the nodular unit seems to be fine.
I wouldn't advise using a 3.75" stroke with small mains.

If it's a large journal 327, you could use a 350 crank. or you could get a 383 stroker Assembly from scat or eagle & have a 383 check out power house & see what they have. Then check for a set of after market heads. And you'll need to do some clearance work. Rods to the oil pan rails, rods to the cam, rods to the bottom of the bore.

327 rotating assembly
i just got a 327 and need to rebuild it. i was wondering if i could drop a rotating assembly in it with a 3.480 stroke or if it had to be the 3.25, what is the cheapest way to add power to it, and would it be safe to put 11.7:1 pistons in it.
