That's why we live here.
I grew up in Manitoba, have lived in all parts of Canada from Montreal west, including Ontario, Sask, NWT, Alberta and now BC
And by the way - it's not all perfect - plus one and raining & windy feels a lot more miserable than -30 in "Winterpeg". You can't dress for it, you can't warm up, even turn the heat up to plus 25 and you still feel chilly.
But I do have bananas and palms in my yard!

Repeat til you have about 20 inches or so
Then a couple of layers of poly to keep the insulation dry (wet insulation does not insulate worth a bleep)
If you can keep the insulation dry, you can just store it next spring and then re-use it again next year, too
Around here, it "never" gets much colder than about 10* (F) (OK - once, about 3 years ago, it got actually down to a couple of degrees below 0* for a couple of days), but mostly it stays around plus 2 to plus 5*C (35-40 above F) as a "coldest" day - usually warmer than that.

|Newmster||Already frigid here in Mb. Lets just hope no -58C like last winter. That was a nasty one... Lost a lot of deer over winter.|

There was a teeny skim of ice on the pool and the bananas were frosted so I chopped them down and covered the bases for winter.
Gotta drain water lines & winterize them in the RV tomorrow
And then retreat to the fireside with a mug of hot chocolate & white rum

Well, today I did my first physical stuff since my surgery a couple of weeks ago.
Not a real lot of physical output - just drove the garden tractor around and got all the lawn cut, but it was my first "do something sorta useful" in a while. Its a start!
