86iroc Yup I had the cover off before I put it in a couple weeks ago. So you think it Is the torque converter? What do you think the average speed in third I should be able to reach cruising comfortably. Right now it is uncomfortable to drive the streets at 4,000 rpm keeping up with traffic.

hpete If 3rd gear is engaging and not slipping it's either the torque converter or the rear end. Are you sure the gears are 3.73?

86iroc That's what i thought at first but I can shift through all the gears manually and it hits them all. I understand their are some low geared cars out there but I feel i should be able to at least drive over 50. The transmission was rebuilt with a shift kit by a transmission shop. But I don't think that is the problem. Someone also said the transmissions 3rd gear could be built at a higher ratio than normal. So i don't know i'm at a bump in the road on this one.

I would like to go with a 700r4 but it would need to be built for my motor. Thanks for the replies. Maybe it is normal the way it is now. If so i need to do something to change that because its real fast around town but I cant drive the interstate unless i want to drive around 6,000 rpm. The torque converter must not be the problem.

Hello I have a problem. I have a 86 Camaro with a 383 stroker engine in it. It been bored .030 over with a 400 crank and so on. I am running a turbo 350 with a newly installed 10 bolt 3.73 rear end. I am running the B&M 20404 torque converter I think it is. Which would be a 2400 stall. When I am driving I am driving i am at 4,000 rpm at 50mph. I'm pretty sure that's not normal for my setup. I was leaning towards bad or wrong torque converter but I'm not 100% sure on the exact problem and wanted to see if anyone would know or give any feedback on this. Thanks
