my87Z If by long block you only mean rotating assembly and heads then you may be able to get it done for 3000.00 but it won't be easy seeing as a forged rotating assembly is around 1700.00 but that would just about limit you to iron heads which will be about 950-1100.00 to your door. A decent we of alm heads will be in the 1500-1800.00 to your door.

400 sbc build looking for advice

I just recently purchased a 400/406 4 bolt block and plan on building it from the ground up. Im looking to get around 500-550 hp/tq on 93 octane. I would like to get all forged rotating assembly with roller cam roller rockers etc. A good flowing pair of heads. Not worried about intake and carb yet. Im looking to spend under or around $3000 for basically the long block. not including machine shop costs. What is the best forged rotating assembly, head and cam combo?
