Blazin72 Ok.... You still haven't said whether or not you addressed any of the suggestions/questions posted here. In

Blazin72 If you just rebuilt the engine there should very little, if any carbon buildup...

Have you addressed any of the other issues previously suggested in this thread?

Engine run on

How much water should I use if I was going to try to get rid of the carbon.

Thanks thumper 33

You may have to limit your total mechanical advance, but I would start by setting the initial timing at about 18* or so and see what happens. As you do this, set your idle speed back down to about 750 RPM.
Thanks for correcting me, I had a brain fart

To expand on S10 Racers post:
Which cylinder heads do you have?
What exactly is your idle timing?
How was it set?
Do you have the correct timing tab for the balancer?
Which spark plug are you using?
What is your idle speed?

Thumper33 Another question for u I have a comp cam reverse grind 488/465 383 stroker what should my timing be set at and advanced timing be.

Thanks thumper 33

Thumper33 The carb is the 650 mighty demon and at this time I have no temp gauge.

Thanks for the info I'll start at the top of the list and work my way down

I appreciate your thoughts

It could be a few things so I suggest trying each one seperately and see if it helps before going to the next. Not necessarily in this order.

1. Carb fuel mixture needs adjusted
2. Idle is set too high. Try idle at 650-700
3. Timing may need retarded
4. Too high operating temp.
5. Gasoline containing alcohol
6. Spark plugs too hot

There are other reasons for run-on such as high carbon deposits in the combustion chambers. Sharp edges in machining processes can also cause run-on because they can cause "hot spot" so these should have been smoothed out during the rebuild.

What carb are you using and what temperature does the motor run?
