briansansone ah

Thanks again.

I do have the smooth pulley. And I am adding an electric fan, and loosing the engine driven fan/clutch.

DoubleVision The coolant flow don't change directions. Just the way the water pump does.
The pump can turn either way, as long as the pump vanes face the right direction it works fine. The majority of the early to mid 90's bracket systems are all reverse direction. However, don't get it confused with reverse flow cooling such as what came on LT1 and LS1 engines as these are completely different and won't interchange on to generation 1 small blocks.

briansansone Thanks!

I definitely did not know that the water pump may be clockwise or counterclockwise . And I definitely want the coolant running the correct direction.

DoubleVision The systems off the early 90's 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7 will all interchange.
However keep in mind to find a complete system, don't attempt to get several sets and try to make it work. A power steering pulley remover is needed if you plan to take the brackets without the pump itself. However if you want to take the pump also it can be removed all in one piece. Also pay attention to the water pump pulley. A smooth pulley is reverse rotation, the ribbed pulley is standard rotation. Same goes for the fan. That's just a tip to make sure you know the differences, as if you use a standard direction pump on a reverse rotation system it will run hot. Lastly, when installing it, make sure you snug the brackets down good with perferably bolts with shouldered heads.

O.K chevy guys.

The accessory brackets on my 1988 silverado 5.7l are old and are flexing so much now that the serpintine belt rides off center gets rapidly shredded.

I have heard that it is possible to use the all aluminium accessory brackets from a later model 5.7l. I do know that the vortec brackets would require a different alternator and other modifications. I'm not looking to get into too much customization.

Is there a simple swap I could do?
