Let me throw something out here. I have painted 2 cars with acrylic enamel with a urethane catalyst. The first was a 47 Ford conv in 1975. I painted it with Sherwin Williams acrylic enamel with Polysol. It was brand new technology then. Everyone tried to talk me out of it but I did it anyway. Back then the other choice was lacquer. I did cut and buff the acrylic enamel and almost 40 years later the car is still on the road and looking pretty good. The second was a black Malibu that I had a buddy paint with PPG's Starthane. It also was cut and buffed and was beautiful.......for about 4 years. After that the paint began to die. the 47 ford has always been a garage kept car. The Malibu was my wife's driver and lived in the sun all day at work. Of course that black paint got really hot out there in the sun. I know you can do some really pretty work with the catalyzed enamels but you may want to consider the environment the car will live in after it is painted.

|AutoGear||If it was me; Id buy the good stuff that mixes 1:1; you'll buy less paint and only need 2 coats.|

My supplier was very persuasive. But I just talked to a guy on PPG's tech line and he's convinced me to go another direction. The fact that he kept asking me what type of truck I was painting spoke volumes. Said it wasn't really intended for auto refinishing.

You have to watch out as those terms are tossed around and often hardly mean a thing.
I know I use to sell a paint called a "Acrylic Urethane enamel". It had a kissing cousin made from the very same toners and re-labeled (no one was suppose to know) and sold as a value line. It was called a "Urethane enamel". LOL, you are dealing with a "value line" and it's anyones guess what it is.

What exactly is Urethane Enamel?
I've shot base clear urethane and I am currently prepping a white car to paint so I was planning on single stage urethane. But my supplier suggested I use Delfleet Urethane Enamel. The price is much cheaper than the Concept I figured I'd use. Concept is like 4 times as much. So I am tempted, but I am completely unfamiliar with "Urethane Enamel". Seems like a hybrid.
I'm shooting in a garage so I want to be able to cut and buff if needed. Is Urethane Enamel like the old Acrylic Enamel where you don't do any color sanding? Or is it more like Acrylic Urethane which you can cut and buff?
