1ownerT Or when turning it will not return to center on it's own, you will have to manually turn it back...not safe.

double check before driving

If the wear is bad enough in the straight ahead position you could tighten it too much and not be able to turn, or be very hard to turn .

Sounds like you have play in the steering box,or,its worn out. on the top of the box,you will find a nut, holding a stud with a screwdriver slot,(usually) loosen nut, using a screw driver turn stud in (clockwise) about 1/4 turn, tighten nut, check for steering wheel play, still loose? do the adjustment again, only 1/4 turn at a time though.keep going, unless the box is worn out, this SHOULD fix the problem...BUT,it could also be worn out suspension components..(bad ball joints,or tie rods.) have a friend move steering wheel (rock it)while you look at the front end this,BEFORE adjusting steering box..

blwn31 Sounds like the steering box is worn and needs adjustment, or replacement if the wear is bad enough. Glad to see you young guns taking on an old project. It's gonna be a nice ride when your done.

Why does it wobble

I am a 15 year-old and i am restoring a '59 chevy truck. I was wondering why my steering wheel shakes back and forth even when the truck is still?
