krypty Id go with a stealth intake and the q-jet... those carbs are without a doubt great for stock applications....Modified they are even great on street/strip performance too...

ap72 Edelbrock 1406 carb on a edelbrock performer intake. Its cheap, very effective, and idiotproof. A holley or quadrajet will work too, but they're more complex.

327NUT A double pumper on a "stock" 283??? I don't think that is a wise recommendation.

I used a 625 carter on a street master intake and was very happy with it.For performance a holley 600 double pumper long bowl works for power but fuel economy suffers a lot.

1930u The old Holley 6210 with stock Q-jet manifold is a great combo especially with a 4-speed and 3:55 through 4:11 gear.

lg1969 Hi, You can try a Holley 390VS #8007 and use a square bore type alum high rise dual plain manifold. It should run very nice. hope this helps.

DoubleVision Weiand action plus, Edelbrock Performer for intake.
Rochester Quadrajet for a carb.
Or you could just get a factory cast iron Quadrajet intake which will work just as well on a stock engine if you wanted to go the cheapest route.
There are also factory aluminum Quadrajet intakes out there as well.
