bubba-21 I bought a book on chevy rat engines that stated the 427 would be a good candidate because it can handle a .125" overbore and with some machine work will handle a long stroke, long rod combo. It did state the 366 wasn't gonna be a good block to start with for that application but I just wanted to make sure no one had experience in that area with it before I completely wrote it off and moved to the tall deck 427.

BOBCRMAN@aol.com 366= Forged steel 3.750" stroke crank. Good 3/8" bolt rods. 4-bolt main caps.. Save these parts.. Scrap the rest..

poncho62 The 427 has the potential (bore) for some HP, the 366 does not......If you can get it, save the crank though....it's forged and will fit a 396 or 427

327NUT Both the 366 and 427 were built for low rpm high torque truck work....not performance engines. They both use very heavy 4 piston ring pistons and no one to my knowledge offers any kind of performance parts for them. You can do a search function on this website and find quite a bit of info reg. both engines......being different doesn't always equate to performance.

366 chevrolet big block

I recently ran across a 366 with around 20k miles on it and it runs great. My question is, can I do a performance build on it? I've always wanted to build a performance engine out of a tall deck truck engine. I know its not cheaper, but I just wanna be different. I've also heard that the tall deck 427 truck engine makes for a lot better candidate on performance builds. Any light on this subject would be greatly appeciated.
