|big gear head||The 8.5 corporate rear end uses the same 3 series differential for all gears from 2.73 to 5.13. The 2.56 to 2.14 gears use a 2 series differential. It would be much easier for you to find a complete rear end with the gears that you want instead of trying to change the gears in the one that you have. You can not simply take a set of gears out of one rear end and bolt them into another without setting the pinion depth, bearing preload and backlash.|

|rusthater89||It might not fit right because the pinion gear will be too big when changing the gears to a ratio that is numerically lower. You may need a new carrier.|

|bullheimer||http://www.ringpinion.com/ and go to calculator. if you are using a truck rear end you might not even be able to get higher gears like that 2:73 so check what's available. i think under 3 would be a mistake. thought about taller tires?|

Blazer gear ratio change for Chevy 292
I have a rat rod with a 1995 Blazer 8.5-10 bolt rear end, with G-80 Eaton limited slip,3:72 gears. This is matched up to a Chevy 292 with a 3 speed Saginaw tranny.
This setup is to low for cruising. 55mph=2500 rpm, I was thinking of changing the rear end gears to a 2:73 or 3:08. Any help/ideas,suggestions would be appreciated......
