Its funny I watch auto commercials on tv and their tearing the public highways apart
theres even one with Charly Shean speeding through A house. and movies like two lane black top, american graffiti , hollywood nights, vanishing point, gone in 60 seconds Etc Etc, But we cant talk about them , The GTO, 409, 442, cobra, amx, amc rebel, even the hudson hornet etc etc, became legends because of their street prowess ,and street marketing without any mention of their track records but Ive seen many threads dumped and members scolded because we old timers post our experiences on the street with these same legendary cars.
I would think we would be given a little lee way but it will probably never come (it is elegal, many people have been killed, it is stupid, childish, and aggravating to most other people) But I always wonder looking at the cars on here putting out well over 500 horse, forced high boost induction, etc, etc. asking questions about more horse power or bigger cams and I know their not running on tracks ( no roll bars, no drag loop, no scatter shield, no trans blanket, etc etc) By the speeds these cars can do they couldn't pass tech to make a pass! unless you keep em above 11 seconds in the quarter with throttle stops or something (then the question is why are they built to go faster???Where do you guys road test your cars when you pull them out of the garage for the first time????
There was one member that said on here he knew an owner of a track that opened it to let him do tune up runs and a couple of passes! But we don't all know owners of tracks! Why build monster engines to put around a rod run, or set parked all day at a show, what do you do push it on a tailor and take it home after! How do you guys know you have a miss at 7500 rpm in any gear unless your a getting on it, Why are you asking about or running high stall converters and steep gears on the street you'll never need em, even the highest rpm engines can idle off a stop sign or drive in normal traffic without stall convertors or steep gears or 14" wide tires ( which by the way are dangerous too in a little sprinkle of rain (they'll hydroplane on tobacco spit) Why do you run wheely bars on the street. Loud exhaust is illegal but Im thinking many of us uncork em once and a while especially at big events!
I don't condone street racing and I don't do it any more, but I do get childish and make mistakes in judgment once in a great while My wife reminds me of this as shes beating me in the shoulder as the rubbers flying off the tires and sticking to my quarter panels ( Not done on the street) I was at a show on private property and was asked to uncork em and nail it by the judges my wife was saying no:nono:. I think every member on here has had a laps of judgment! We're hot rodders Many of us are ex racers and many are now. Its a site set up for hot rods not pretenders and its set up for high performance not grocery getters ( even though it seems to be going in that direction with all the, my car wont start, what do you think my horse power is, my plugs are black whats that mean, Etc, etc.
When we tell some kid how to build an engine to get 400 horse aut of a 305 common sense tells you hes going to pull it out of the garage when its finished and try it right in front of his house!:nono:
Maybe we should warn them or quote the laws on the thread before any answers are given. Ive built cars that scared the owners so bad they wanted the cars detuned (Many of you builders have probably had the same experiance). Those people are rare most all of us like the adrenalin rush of hard acceleration and coming out of an 8000rpm hole shot where the car goes side ways!!! I do! (not on the street:nono::spank
Im curious as to how many of us have had lapses of judgment on the streets without elaborating :nono: have any of you ? Just a yes or no, and don't say if it was street race :nono:, a little excessive acceleration :nono:, laying a little rubber:nono: or passing with more speed then was necessary Etc. Maybe a yes and no will pass the monitors as we are not condoning what we did or elaberating on it! Wrong is wrong and a yes or no with a we were wrong seems fine to me!
I answer: Yes
