9 in rear end
I need it to be around 50 inches between backing plates.

Narrow it. Have a chassis shop narrow the rear end to exactly what you need. The 9 inch is one of the easiest rear ends to narrow because usually you can respline the axles that you have and use them again. I don't recommend this for a high performance car, but for a cruiser it's just fine.
How wide does the rear end need to be?

|big gear head||The only way that I know of is to remove an axle. The tag says that you have a 2.75 gear in a 9 inch rear end.|

ford 9 inch, axle spline count ID ?
hey everyone,I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to identify if an axel is 28 or 31 spline without taering it apart. Is there some outside marking that can tell you this? I believe it came out of a seventies pickup the tag reads2-75-9-844a which I think is ratio and ring gear size and whatever else.
