Thanks F'Bird-88, I knew you'd come through. The headers are a real PITA especially in my HK Monaro. You've been a great help.

A Autolite "AR23" and a Autolite 23 both cross reference to a champion RV9YC or AC delco R42TS
They should have the same reach and similar heat range. I find autolite burn a bit different than champions but they are close enough.
The only ACCEL products I'll buy and use are the shorty spark plugs for header clearance (when required) and the old shool high perf ignition points for a points distributor.
I think AC delco makes a shorty plug too for this but I don't know the number.
When using the ACCEL spark plugs be sure the screw on tip is on tight.
AR25 is 3full heat ranges hotter. Good for moms stock grocery getter, too hot for high perf WOT driving.
='s Champion RV15YC.
Pesky headers. You'd think by now they would have figured out how to make a header that fits a SBC.

Thanks 410, the insulation boots sound like a good idea, I'll get them
I ordered the AR23's and see how they measure up. Funny how you get different opinions?
I've heard nothing but bad wraps on accel stuff, I guess guys just use what works for them. The Autolite 23 has a .46" reach, I just hope that the AR23 has the same. Some sites quote the AR23 to have a .46" reach, but a cross reference site quotes them to have a .38" reach. Guess I'll just have to wait till they get here and work it out for myself.

|Ripper 410||I never had any luck running autolites in a chevy, they usually do not have the proper resistance for the GM ignition system even running ignition boxes, and aftermarket components, I would suggest giving summit or jegs a call and get a set of the accel header plugs they are designed too solve the problems you are having oh and also get you a set of boot insulators to save you wires.|

Spark Plug Application SBC
I have a question regarding spark plug compatibility. I have recently got my 11:1 comp 355 sbc with 294S cam up and running using Autolite 23 plugs and all the other recommendations from F'Bird-88 (thankyou F'Bird-88 for all your online assistance - i did get the HEI dist) including locked out timing, transfer slot exposures etc and the thing runs great, idles CLEAN! And goes llike a rocket. However I have an issue with the long Autolite 23 plugs clearing the headers. One in particular #8 cyl is that tight that I have to pry the header pipe away from the head with I jimmy bar just to get the pug in!
And then when I fit the plug wire on, the boot touches the header pipe and shorts out - causing a miss under acceleration. I believe that the AR series autolite range are shorter and are considering running the AR23 plugs for more clearance, however when I check the comparability tab on the Summit catalog, it says that these are for V6 engines. I posed a question to Summit about this and they replied that the AR23 plug is NOT SUITABLE for sbc and that I must use the AR25? This plug is gonna be too hot for my application. My question is, is there any difference between the two plugs other than the heat range? Is the reach, thread size and wrench size still the same? Do Summit know what they are talking about? I'm confused! Are there two types of AR23's? Can any one clear this up for me please...
