I am going to get the footings and slab ripped out while I'm at it. May as well go everything new. I mean, what the hey? I paid full permit price.

Just about the same approach was used last month when they demolished the old (vintage 1946 or so) house next door to me - using the same model of Cat backhoe as it happens. Everything piled in the original footprint, and drive on top of the pile to get access to other parts .Then the big Bin trucks arrived, the loader worked from on top of the pile to load them. A day later the lot was cleared, original foundation was demolished and there was no trace of anything remaining. Construction of the new house begins in about a month so.
I have not seen the building plans, but I hope the new place "fits" the neighborhood.
I was actually surprised that they took it ALL down - there is a curious quirk in building laws and sales taxes on building materials around here. Renovations are tax- exempt, but new construction is fully taxed. If you leave ONE original wall, it is considered to be renovation. I've seen quite a few "renovated" older homes. Esp when a year later another reno occurs, replacing that one original wall and expanding the house out THAT side, too.

I pulled a demo trailer for 1 summer and watched a number of buildings get demolished. Around here, they need a fire hose spraying on it while it comes down to contain the dust.

I say this because I wanted to see a quick and painful death come to this piece of @#$%?!^* house.
He actually used the debris in the basement to drive forward on top of as well to get to the other end of the house.
Bins coming tomorrow...

|1971BB427||And got new rubber on the front of my Austin gasser this afternoon! Did a small job changing out pushrods on my buddy's 350 SBC, and he gave me a almost new pair of skinny 165-80-15 tires for my 3.5"x15" Ansen slots!|

|1971BB427||Changed out spark plugs on the SBC in my Burb today, and had a fun time with #5 cylinder! All went well up to that point, and then I discovered not a single deep well socket would fit past the header on that plug! Had to use an old offset box wrench and remove it 1/8th turn at a time! Used the rubber hose trick to get the new plug started in, and then same routine to tighten it! Hope I don't have to do that one again for a very long time!|
