Diesel with spark plugs

Back in the 50's when I was in high school we had an iron wheel Fordson tractor parked in one of the sheds that burned diesel and had spark plugs It had a two compartment fuel tank. You would start it on gasoline then when the engine was hot switch over to diesel. at the end of the day you would switch back to gasoline and run it to fill the carb with gasoline so it would start the next day. we took it to the school shop, tore it apart, cleaned every thing, put it back together and got it to run. My case 580 has a fuel solenoid. to start one without the key, hot wire the fuel wire and jump the starter solenoid, If there is no power to the fuel line solenoid and it won't run.

90k Harley 45s were bought by the US military. And you know what they say, for every plane or what ever, there are enough spare parts to build three more. The NOS Army surplus parts are still available for these bikes! My brother used a bunch on his 45 that he restored. I remember cleaning the Cosmoline off a generator armature and it was so bizarre how I was cleaning this Cosmoline off a part that hadn't been touched by human hand since WWII!

I will never forget when I was working at a restoration shop back in the late seventies when a guy came in with a 32 Ford five window for sale, it had been in a garage fire. The wild part was it was an old custom from the early sixties that was sectioned and chopped. It was only sectioned on the front half with the quarters over the fenders being stock. The body line went down to the lower front half.

It was pretty badly damaged by the fire but damn I wish I had that today!

No such thing, that is what makes it a "diesel", like when you used to shut off your 80's car and it would run on...it was dieseling without any electrical spark.

Like David said, the only way to shut down a run-away diesel is to cut off the air supply. That guy that said he was going to disconnect the battery cable probably knew nothing about what was keeping that engine wide open.
Um....that was a joke.
