|Too Many Projects||
Friday was a LONG day. I left at 8am to make the first of 3 100 mile round trip runs to bring 3 vehicles home. Got done with at at 5pm and swapped the Corvair for the '70 Chevelle on the trailer. The Corvair was going to a swap meet Sunday and the Chevelle had a dead fuel pump. I started digging out parts for that meet and loading boxes in the Corvair. At 6:30, went in the house for supper. I came back out at 7:30 to close the shop and lock up. I discovered the left front tire on my truck was pancake flat !! I couldn't even get it to take air from the portable tank. Dragged the floor jack out and the 4 way wrench and removed it. Found the puncture, broke it down and patched it. By then it was dark and I left it till morning to re-install.
Sat morn, I put the wheel back on and took the trailer to the meet location at 10:00 am and set up our area and left it there. Back home to load the truck and spent another 3 hours packing 20 pounds of "stuff" in a 5lb bag. Then, the wife and I went out to dinner at a new Italian restaurant and bought a fuel pump for the Chevelle to install Sunday after the meet.
Sunday was an even longer day, as I left home at 5:30 am Sunday with the pickup loaded to the gills and spent an hour spreading it all out at the meet.
I can tell the economy is still tight as all the buyers pockets were stapled shut and I had to sell stuff at a fraction of what I had once paid and was hoping to get. Oh well, I did sell a LOT of stuff and came home with very little left over. I get to keep some of that precious floor space I uncovered loading it all up...
We were there until 1 pm, baking in the sun and then I came home and swapped out the fuel pump on the Chevelle that I had bought Saturday night. Got that running and able to move it out of the shop to work on the neighbors dump truck today. After that and helping the wife with a few yard chores, I came in the house at 6pm for dinner and never went back out. I got to sit on my butt for a few hours last night.
I DID sell the Corvair for a very fair price and I will be delivering it 15 miles away this morning to make the sale. Hey, what's another couple hours and gallons of gas to be down 1 car count and a nice stack of cash in my pocket...

I stayed pretty busy yesterday, but nothing got done on my car.
Had to get the rototiller running again for the wife, (it died in the middle of the garden)
I guess I did put some cheap seat covers on the wife Toyota p-up.
Did some welding on a buddies disc golf basket.

It's my daughter's 14th birthday today, damn time flies!
I got out there to the garage this morning to build this bracket to hang my creeper on my little roll around box at work. All was good until I made all ready to drill the holes and noticed that I had looked at the wrong number on the overall length at 14 9/16" , I had to make another one at 16.
Sorry for the lousy photo, I'll take one tomorrow when I get it on the box. Should work pretty neat so the creeper is with me at all times.
Anyway, got it done and into the house to help my wife get the place ready for the big party.

Jennifer and I have been on at least two 75+ mile cruises already this "spring", and sometimes one or two others join us, but it would be fun to have even more folks join in once in a wile when the warm weather gets more dependable.

Martin, i called them my Princess Diana's for about 15 years. Her death is what got me wearing them everytime i get in a car. glad yer kids alright.
today... did my usual electrical work gig. yesterday was mo intresting. excavator took down a service drop to two service masts ripping them in half. didn't harm the wires or the lugs in the meter tho, so i re sleeved them both and charged the ins co a grand apiece. sure kicked my ***** tho. today wasnt much better. i seem to go to bed earlier on the weekends than i do on the weekdays. wtf's up widdat??? and my wife is even out of town and i'm not up to whoring around without her. man it sux gettin old and feeble. aka my get up and go got up and left. tomorry i gots ta get a new kitchen sink and install THAT pos! i also got this stupid lawn mower that wont start and a lawn that is up to my shins to mow if i can ever get it going. Bikes on hold, but i need to order parts, just dont think i should be spending money on that right now, and i also had my 400's oil pan and galley cover tanked or peened, so i am ready to paint the both of them. should be another nut binder of a day in the life of bullheimer mcgee. my first day off since my colonoscopy two fridays ago. sure would be nice to do absolutely NOTHING and lay in the sun drinking _______ ! but it's been three days now w/o a kitchen sink, and i gotta replace all the plumbing under it as well. man, there just aint enuf hours in the day. and the worst thing is...i'm not even gonna get paid $180,000,000 to do it!

My neighbor and I were just talking to another friend today about his new old Vette. He had an original orange '67 big block, which had numerous flaws, but I loved it. At the show today he was driving a red '65 327, that was 100% correct restoration. I commented on how lovely the resto was, but said I was going to miss seeing his '67 with it's flaws, and paint so thin in places that I could see the primer showing. He was perplexed, but I really do like cars that are cared for, but used a lot too!

Guys, this was crazy, they had taken off after working on the Alpine up to the Golden Gate just for a drive. That's 50 miles away and this wreck happened about a mile from my house. I did NOT expect what I saw when he called me. He said the car rolled over and I thought "Yeah right" because it's just not that common for a car to do that, not and have the occupants not hurt. I took off to find him on the off ramp to our exit off the freeway with a highway patrol car there and two officers. The car was backwards and up against a light pole that smashed into the rocker at the door my son was sitting! Smashed so much the door wouldn't open because the rocker and the door were wadded together! They had climbed out the drivers broken window, the right rear door of the car was the only one that opened and I went through it to get my son's glasses. They were folded up and put into a cup holder like he put them there on purpose but he had them on in the accident! I knew the tow truck driver and he took it to where I work across town. And I met him there to open up the gate. On the way home I bought them each a lotto ticket telling them they already won a hell of a lottery but maybe their luck will still be with them.
YES I am so thankful you just don't know. The friend stayed at my house last night, don't think he really wanted to go home real fast, that's the second Scion he has totaled.
My son has always worn that seat belt, all my kids, never had a problem with them ever since they were babies. I called it a "Racing harness" when they were little in their car seats. I would show them the harnesses on race cars and say "See, the race car as the same thing". But honestly, never ever gave me so much as a whimper about wearing them. If he didn't have that on last night, this would have been a much different day.
I am so thankful, sooo thankful.

As you old timer body guys surely know, body repair technics of old Corvettes back in the 60s-70s left a lot to be desired. when I rebuilt my 62 a couple years ago I ran across many injuries, from years gone by, where the "repair" consisted of globing some bondo on the back side. bondo and sand the outside, and paint it. no cloth, no resin, just bondo . well…. somehow I missed properly repairing one vintage crack at the top of the DS fender during restoration and it re-surfaced a month or so ago. today I beefed it up with some glass mat and resin inside the fender. I guess I hadn't seen it during the initial bodywork because the crack initiated right at the vertical edge of the bonding strip. if I was planning on a repaint I'd do a bit more extensive repair now, but it's just a nice driver and I'm NOT gona paint this thing again. I figure I'm just adding a little patina to make it worth more to my heirs.

There is a car show a couple of blocks away at my son's old High School
NASCAR is on at Talledega
and I should go visit my friend in hospital
So far it looks like : DVR the race, drop into the car show and then drive downtown to see her a bit later.
