'88-'98. There were a couple years where the 2500 LD did not exist, but the F44 pkg existed since about 1988.. Depended on the ordering options available in that year.
Any 1500 Diesel automatically has the F44 pkg also

No expert, just what I knew.
What years were these? Learning something new every day...

1500 w/ F44 pkg has HD suspension and a SF 9.5" 14 bolt.
2500 LD has HD suspension and a SF 9.5" 14 bolt.
Regular 1500 would have an 8.5" 10 bolt- 30 spline

2500 / 8 bolt rims - 3/4 ton pick up
1500 (HD) / 6 bolt rims - 1/2 ton pick up

|stallion0606||ok explain to me semi floater. rear axle does not have big hub sticking out of it. it looks like a regular axle. that six bolt hub is a full floater if i am correct. can someone explain what is the difference between a 2500 and a 1500hd. 2001 chevy silverado.|

Yea listen to him.
As far as wheels go, chevy never changed they're bolt patterns for trucks. Ever. So any year wheels will work.

'91 4x4 with F44 RPO has upgraded HD suspension/ brakes ( N/A to a '73-'87 ) and a Semi Floater 9.5" 14 bolt.. If you have 8 lugs on the '91, it's a 2500. plain and simple. You could swap the entire rear end over to the '79, but as far as swapping the gears, the '79 has a 28 spline 10 bolt, and any variation of the '91 truck you describe will have ither a 9.5" semi floater 14 bolt or a 10.5" full floater 14 bolt, so stuff just won't swap.
I didn't mention front stuff because it won't swap

|stallion0606||i was thinking of the gearing. i would have to buy eight lug wheels and im on a tight budget. six lug axles will fit in heavy 1/2 ton casings right? i have 4.11 and 4.10 gears for my half ton axles but not really sure how to install them and like i said on a tight budget.|

I would say yes.
Not really an advange from one to the other, just personal preference.

I have a 1979 chevy silverado 1/2 ton 4x4. It has a 4 speed manual tranns. I have a 91 chevy also 4x4 heavy half. Its got a th400 in it. Now can i put the half ton axles in the heavy half casing. Also what is the advantage of the th400 compared to the 4 speed manual.
