tech69 here's the video I'm talking about...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDCqd...ature=youtu.be

stay tuned cause in episode 43 I get a lot deeper on the subject and it's the best video I ever made.

As Martin said, let's see some detailed and up close pics of the issues and we can walk you thru it.

Vincent, first off, I can't make this clear enough, I know you are just talking with some guys on a forum and not even face to face. You don't know who we are and you went to a shop, spoke face to face with guys who had a lot of wonderful equipment and they SHOULD know what they are talking about.

The cold hard fact is, it is a very real possibility they don't have a clue as to what is wrong. I work with guys every day, pros, guys with decades of experience who don't have a clue about stuff like this. They change parts and that is all they can do.

Yes the hinge may be bent, but it is often very easy to repair. If your lid is over to one side, that is childs play, just align it properly. If it needs a little help to push it over like the holes aren't big enough or something, fine it may need that. But unless the lid is over an inch I seriously doubt it is more than simply loosing up the CORRECT bolts and moving it over. Removing the striker so you can open and close the lid freely.

If it's up at the front of it by the rear window, AND back towards the rear of the car, both these conditions are corrected with ONE bend of the hinge or trunk lid. The concept was discussed in the thread you will see after clicking on this link. http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/how-...nt-222021.html

Post some photos and lets get on with fixing your trunk lid so it fits.

If you can't post some photos we can still walk you thru it. But lets see if we can SEE it first.

tech69 Mind taking some pics? I'm actually uploading a video right now to youtube that may help you out. As soon as it uploads I'll paste a link up.

sounds like twisting the decklid may help and pushing the hood back on its hinges.

tech69 it would suck to deal with those tensioners AND figure out at the same time you have more adjusting to do with these new ones. As Martin mentioned and asked, let us know why you are getting new hinges and if you can show us some pics of the issues. He's trying to help you save time and money and with a little patience everyone on board will help you out as much as possible to walk you through this.

MARTINSR Vincent, you aren't listening, you VERY likely don't need hinges. But if you want to spend money and time and get some that is fine with us.

As a few of us have said, bending hinges on a car like that is VERY unlikely. But if they are a little tweeked, they can be VERY easily repaired right where they are.

What exactly is the problem with the fit of the trunk?

Vincentnova im in san francisco
i finaly find some....
there is this a huge big junk yard in the nevada , called desert valley
if you need rare parts its a good place to go

MARTINSR Vincent, where are you?

deadbodyman And they're not easily replaced either...

bigdog7373 Wait you still have the hinges? I'm sure you can straighten them out or fix whatevers wrong. Trunk hinges arent something i would imagine breaking on a car like a nova.
08-14-2012 03:31 PM
MARTINSR I will bet a crisp $10 bill that the hinges are straight and it's the body that is out of whack. But lets start with what EXACTLY is the problem? How is the lid fitting that suggests the hinges are bent?

Is it high in the back, low in the back, over to one side, high in the front up at the rear window, or is it too low there, what exactly is saying the hinges are bent?

I am 99% sure we can get this straightened out with the hinges.

Vincentnova the car gat hit
framed machine work done
i still need those

i guess? during the accident the trunk lid did open and twist a little the hinges
not a lot , its impossible to see with the eyes but

MARTINSR My first question is why do you need them? It's pretty odd to need hinges on that car, unless it was hit by a train, why would you need them?

bigdog7373 I can't find anything either. Might have to just buy the billet ones and paint them black so they aren't noticable.

1971 nova trunk lid 'hinges' hard time to find parts

hello
i need to find a set off hinges for my trunk lid
impossible to find those parts , unless if i find a nova in a junk yard
does anyone know if the hinges from a 71 chevelle will work? or 71 camaro?

there is some available aftermarket billet aluminum but too expansive and don't look original
