I was finally able to locate a new windshield for about $600 "what a deal" right? the sad part was the shipping cost $700
Anyhow, it's out of the way, i decided to leave the car all original, I will keep the 390, it has enough power and pull.
Still need couple minor trim parts, any good parts store out there? I know the good local ones are hard to locate on google.

Search the forums at Modified Cadillac and you'll find a lot more info.

|1badchevy||unless your trying to keep it original or something, you should try and get a late 60's/ early 70's, 472 or 500. Alot more power (dep. on year), and it should be a straight swap.|

Any one can refer me to someone has new front windshield for a 1962 Cadillac? my windshield cracked for some odd reasons, I don't know what happened, I think the sun did it, I han no choice but park it in the drive way covered, the heat wave we've had in California might have done it.
anyhow, will appreciate a refferal.

|cobalt327||The 390 needs no help in the compression ratio department- it's already in the area of 10.5:1.|

I'd LOVE to get your 472 but shipping to Memphis would be horrible
For your 390, Just pocket port the heads, match the runners and back cut the exhaust valves and shave some off the deck to raise comp a bit.
I've got Comp and Bullet cams here that can regrind a cam, but you should be able to find a place by you to spice it up a little..
I missed a couple caddy's here in the past 2 years or so and should've gotten them.
Oh, and if the tail shaft of the trans is the same as the 70's th400, then a Gear Vendors overdrive would help TOO!
Great car! E

call those caddy parts guys and see if the eldorado oil pan will let a 472 fit in there.
i have been trying to sell my 472 for months for $500 and now $450 and cant give it away. they are all over, and just going to waste. would be a million times better than what you got now, unless your motor is in good shape, which is the only reason i would keep it.
after re reading your op, just keep it stock, w minor upgrades

|compje||I am happy to see some one doing a rod and NOT using a SBC. The Caddy motors are tough as nails.|

I tried to get the car history but I ran into so many boogies, something special about this car but I am not sure what is it, maybe if I find a similar one to check will help. would you happen to know where can I get the complete history of this car?
I've been talking to so many about the power train, they all seem to think that the 390 is just fine and strong enough, I much rather keep it original if possible.
Odd, I saw a 1960 that needs total restoration and I was thinking of buying it, I don't know why, it was a nightmare to finish this one but these cars are so awesome, not many restored around and plenty need restoration.

|compje||way more cool than a SBC|

I had one like that, original owner H. Hughes, original color was silver-blue.
Is this the same car?
The 390 with the Hydro does just fine. A limo of that vintage will smoke 'em.
I swapped a '59 limo to 400/700R4, and I'm not sure it was worth it. (I still have the 60k 390!)
I can tell you the 472/500s won't go without a lot of surgery. Forget that option, the oil pump is smack in the middle of the crossmember.
There was a factory-optional dual quad, but you probably won't net any advantage in such a heavy car. I would go with a modern cam grind though.

I will certainly try to contact you when I get back to California, excellent modifications ideas, next i will install all new A/C's compressors including all lines from a to z, just love my car and can't wait to show it.
Thanks to all.

|61fleetwood||I have a 61 Series 62, it has the 390 in it. There are some intake upgrades but they are difficult to find and not cheap. I upgraded mine to an alternator and Pertronics ignition. It runs like a dream ,and has lots of power. I switched to dual exhaust and had to reroute my gas line due to vapor lock. I have had it completely apart so if you have any questions I can probally help. There are a few sites that deal with our cars, I want to upgrade the brakes next.|
