Vberg The car is a '62 Chevy II Nova and the motor it will go behind is a 400 sbc which will hopefully have close to 500 hp but 400 hp is probably more realistic. I'm just going to use the car for driving around and having fun while in high school with the occasional race.

Vberg I figured I would rebuild it at the very least because I know a guy who will teach me how to rebuild it so it seemed worth it to me. I just don't know if I should do anything else to it while I'm rebuilding it. Any suggestions?

forgebench With a th350 with an unknown history id probably rebuild it. If you don't want to rebuild it then you should probably just stay out of it and run it till it dies. I never put a shift kit in a used tranny, especially considering how easy the th350 is to rebuild.

Vberg Thanks for the help!

Is there anything I should do for sure to the tranny? Like a shift kit or anything that will make it a better tranny for the 400?

forgebench This should help you ID your trans:

Automatic Transmission Identification

I'm running a TH-350 as well, it's a fine transmission and she'll do well for you.

onlyfnway The trans will wrk good behind a 400 sbc.

123pugsy TH350 has a suare pan with one corner cut off at 45 dgrees. The TH250 looks the same except it has a threaded stud with a nut on it, I believe just behind the bellhousing on the pass side. The 250 is junk and won't stand up to much.
The 350 should be OK for a mild 400 CID motor.

350 Transmission

When I bought my project car I was told the transmission was a 350 but I don't know anything about it. Does anyone know where to look on it to verify its a 350? And if it is a 350 would it be any good to throw behind a reasonably built 400 sbc for the street?
