rsk289 Not a fun job, as it's a stroked 351W in a '68 Mustang, fairly tight fit. But had to bite the bullet - weird, I've closed the gap down from .045" to .035", and I can't get it to ping now. I'm surprised it made a difference, but I guess the lack of a box is not compensated for by the Blaster coil and MSD distributor. Seems to run like a bird now, so thanks for the advice!

RWENUTS Close up the gap to .032 and see what it does!

Plug gap and pinging??

Motor is Ford Racing 392 stroker with CR of around 9:1, aluminum GT40 heads, forged pistons, MSD ready-to-run distributor but NO MSD box.
I have Motorcraft AGSF32C plugs, as came with the motor from Ford. I have just fitted new ones, exactly the same, and the motor is now pinging on acceleration which it was not before. I have set the gap at .045" as I have no info on what it should be. Is this too wide? There is no ignition box, just the MSD distributor. Could too wide a gap cause pinging? I have changed nothing else.
