boothboy So far from the answers we have received neither of you guys were front end mechanics These finger placements in this configuration were used in a specific front end procedure. They told when the repair was at it's best.
Today there is no need to use this hand configuration to complete the repair.

And no, they were not part of a secret front end mechanic's handshake.

boothboy Your a old time front end man. While doing a vital action in keeping your customer happy you form your hand in the manner below while making a adjustment. What repair are you making?

Note: The pinky finger will be a little more parallel to the index while making the adjustment and your hands are a lot more dirty!
