I've seen aluminum foil used for an air dam to keep the argon around the welding area, A friend welded space shuttle pieces, he said that military duct tape was sometimes used to create a pocket around a weld area. Said it worked better than home center regular duct tape.

lt1_performance I can tell ya I'd start fab'n intakes and valve covers like that if aluminum was so frick'n expensive!

Vortech 4.3 oh-yeah, RPM. i forgot about those guys. check out the 1100 hp 4.3

i was going to buy a set of sheet metal valve covers from them. (i can't find them on their site). but they did not look the way i wanted, so i didn't get em.

Vortech 4.3 they had to weld the runners together. then weld them onto the flange on the outside.

looking closer, it looks like that is for BRODIX heads. the ports are not close enough to be vortec heads.
