I'm sorry for your losses. Building this truck should supply some good shop therapy and be a great tribute to them.
I agree with everyone. Use your stock frame and save a lot of time. I put an S-10 frame under my daughter's '46 International because the old one was rusted to crap. It was a pain to swap, etc.
I put a camaro subframe and rearend under my '52 Chev panel years ago and it was a dream to drive.
Currently, I'm putting an S-10 rearend and a Heidts Mustang 2 frontend under my '48 Chev p/u . I did a lot of searching and comparing prices and picked the frontend up on EBAY for $1,525 including dropped spindles, swaybar, stainless front brake lines and free shipping to anywhere in the lower '48.

Reading this about your Brother and Son isn't easy. I don't know if I would survive the loss of my only son, let alone try to work with a vehicle that was his after ONLY 5 years.
On to better thoughts........I'm with the others for keeping the original frame and making it what you want. That frame is strong enough to handle most any mods. I see in your journal that you want to make big power but still drive it distances. Big power and long distances usually don't mix dependably and the fuel consumption will be great too. I suggest a nice 350 hp 350 with a 200-R4 trans into a 3.08 geared axle. That's one of the most reliable combos around with parts readily available anywhere on this continent and will deliver good mileage too. An LS based engine can deliver even more power dependably with better mileage but now we're into computers and I don't like dealing with them . Many of my car friends have gone that route and computer controlled fuel injection really is the hot rod of now and the future.
Have you considered a membership in MSRA and using that as a local source for parts and help ?

|chevota'54||I agree, I drive a '54 daily, w/a mustang II type front end and it has nova rear end. people cant beleve how well it rides, stops, and goes. thats a pic of it to the left, so you can see it has a good stance. Keep the frame, fix the suspension. Have you ever driven an S-10 the handle like poop, my '54 aint no roadracer, but I would'nt worry about driving to Calf. & back. Good luck with it, I LOVE mine.|

|dbrow6272||MARTINSR I want a nice looking hot rod truck that I can drive 5000 miles trouble free. I know it will take some work, as a matter of fact a lot of work, believe me I am keeping that truck and in memory of my brother, and son it will see the streets again.|

Here is just one supplier, Classic Truck Chassis & Suspension Parts - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop They have a bolt in Mustang II front crossmember. And if you think these parts are expensive, you need to add up the S-10 frame and then REBUILDING IT you KNOW you will need to rebuild darn near the whole thing with ball joints and stuff, add it all up. Don't think that getting an S-10 Frame for $500 is the end to your spending.

For goodness sakes, why change the frame? Why is this the first thing people think about, how about make the one that is there work to your liking?
There is NO SUCH THING as a frame "swap". It is simply swapping time, money and work from one frame to another.
You have worked so hard to get that truck back, keep it THAT truck and not an S-10 with that trucks body parts stuck on it.
What are your expectations? Do you want to get out on the highway and take it on 5000 mile trips? Maybe upgrading the suspension is the way, maybe an S-10 frame is the way. But what do you WANT out of the truck.
If you want a neat old hot rod, put a dropped axle or a Mustang II front end, there are ZILLIONS of kits out here. There are ZILLIONS of kits out there for the rear, super nice springs and shocks that will make it ride like a dream.
I have to tell you I have driven these trucks (have had one for 40 years) and with a proper rebuilt suspension and a dropped axle they drive VERY nice.

Is the S10 chassis the same size or does it need work to make it fit the body and bed?

52 chev pickup
So I am building a 1952 Chev 3100 Pick Up. This truck has a bit of "family" history. It belonged to my brother who commited suicide, prior to his fatal thought he had sold the truck. My son somehow found the truck and being very good friends with my brother he talked the owner into selling him the truck. 5 years ago my son was killed. I managed to get the truck from his cheating widow. Now its time to get the old beast back on the road. I have the title, in my name so all of that is good. What type of chassis would you recommend for this truck? I am going to hot rod it, like my boy wanted to do, so I am starting from the ground up. Why 5 years, well it has taken that long for me to get to a point where I can look at it without breaking down. He was my only son, and also my best friend.
