My 1981 chilitons book lists the comperssion for a 1974 Pinto at 8.4 to 1.
BTW, when you mill the head on a Pinto engine, you need an adjustable cam sprocket to correct the cam timing after the head mill.

If you don't have a mic you can measure your volume above the piston by bringing it to TDC and sealing the edges with a thin layer of petroleum jelly. Use a common medical syringe to measure the volume- available at any corner drug store.
be sure to have it level and seal the top with either a hard plastic sheet or an old CD.
These are common cheap tricks that most of us use around here.

|ap72||you can mill a LOT of that head- enough to allow for any compression that your heart desires. I'd bump it up to about 9.7:1, pick up a ranger "header" manifold, and put in a cam with about 225/225 duration. It's a great combo using all stock parts- except the cam.|

Compression Ratio for 74 ford 2.3 ?
I am going to put a cam in a 74 Ford 2.3. I have heard the compression ratio is 8.5 but am not sure. Does anyone know for sure what the cr is on this engine? The engine is in a 28 A roadster pickup.
